From Naismith to Lithuania: Local resident has followed big hoops dream

Like most young kids crazy about basketball, Dominykas Kvedys remembers watching Michael Jordan weave his magic during televised game.

But, most young kids didn’t have to get up at 4 a.m. in the morning to see M.J. fill the airways over the NBA skies.

No doubt the Kvedys household in Lithuania wasn’t the only one with the television blaring in darkened living rooms in the middle of the night.

“Basketball is like a second religion in Lithunia,” said Kvedys, during an interview last week. “Soccer is real low.”

The 6-foot-10 Kvedys, who joked his height was spurred by the Chernobyl nuclear plant accident (his dad is only 5-11, his mother even shorter), currently lives in Bartlesville.


During his three-year college basketball career at Sam Houston State, Kvedys met and married Bartlesville High graduate Adrian Hensley. He currently is living in town and working for a local car dealership, while his wife attends medical school.
